Lui Che Woo, the renowned casino mogul and chairman of Galaxy Entertainment, passed away on November 7 at the age of 95. His visionary leadership played a crucial role in Macau surpassing Las Vegas as the world’s largest gambling hub in 2006. Galaxy Entertainment, one of the six Macau gambling license holders, owns a significant amount of real estate on the Cotai Strip.
Despite his immense success, Lui remained humble and understated, initially building his fortune in quarry mining and construction through the K. Wah Group. His son, Francis, serves as the deputy chairman of Galaxy Entertainment and oversees various projects within the company. Lui’s other children are involved in the family’s business interests on a global scale.
In light of Lui’s passing, Galaxy Entertainment will appoint a new chairman in the near future. The company highlighted Lui’s vision, leadership, and guidance as instrumental in its success and reassured stakeholders that operations will continue without disruption.
Lui’s legacy extends beyond the realm of gambling and real estate, as he leaves behind a lasting impact on the industry and community. His contributions to Macau’s growth as a prominent gambling destination will be remembered for years to come.
