Ex-NGCB Employee Thwarts Board’s Plea to Toss Lawsuit

Jaime Black, a former department head at the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB), has recently taken a stand against her former employer by refusing to let her racial discrimination lawsuit be dismissed. Black, who had been with the NGCB since 2014 and rose to the position of head of the Administration Division in June 2017, filed the lawsuit against NGCB board member Brittnie Watkins in September. The NGCB responded by attempting to have the case dismissed in October, claiming Black’s allegations were “baseless.”

However, Black’s attorney, Mark Mausert, was not willing to let the case be dismissed so easily. He filed a motion in Las Vegas’s US District Court along with a 24-page response arguing that there was enough evidence to support Black’s claims that Watkins had discriminated against her. Mausert pointed out that Watkins had created a hostile work environment for Black, which is a violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. Black’s attorney also informed the Nevada Attorney General’s office, which is representing the NGCB, that his client’s allegations had a solid legal and factual basis.

In her lawsuit, Black alleges that Watkins pressured her to engage in discriminatory hiring practices and created a hostile work environment when Black resisted. Despite these serious allegations, the NGCB has remained tight-lipped about the case, with representatives declining to comment on the ongoing legal proceedings presided over by Judge Miranda Du.

Overall, Jaime Black’s refusal to let her racial discrimination lawsuit be dismissed highlights the ongoing issue of discrimination in the workplace and the importance of standing up against injustice. Her case serves as a reminder that individuals have the right to speak out against discrimination and fight for a work environment free from hostility and bias. As the legal proceedings continue, it is essential to support individuals like Jaime Black who are bravely speaking out against discrimination and working towards a more inclusive and equitable workplace for all.
